For this project, I designed a book cover and the chapter layouts for that book. I started by going into Chat GPT to generate text to fill in the information I needed to create my mock book.
As an avid reader, I wanted to design a fantasy book cover. Thus, I generated a title, author, and summary from Chat GPT. Through my research, I found that fantasy books often have ornamental designs with decorative text.
I carried this theme over into my design by creating a “window” in the center of the cover to hold the author name and book title. All the yellow elements are designed with gold foil embossed on the hardcover design of the book.
For my book layout, I wanted to keep things simple. For a book, you want some elements of design, but the book should be easily read. Thus, I used the blue from the cover for the chapter headers. Second, I used a glyph from my font to decorate the top of the header to give visual appeal. Finally, I used character styles to make the top line of each chapter stand out.
